THE SARAF FOUNDATION

“Change is inevitable, and we cannot do anything about it, so how do we preserve our heritage? To preserve the physical, we can’t really pause or stop development – we can only allow it. What I could do was preserve the work done by these different scholars and intellectuals that started during the 50s – and since that time, different studies and research works have been done in different sectors of Nepal.” – Arun Saraf

The Saraf Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to preserving intangible culture and built heritage across the Himalayan terrain. It results from the Saraf family’s love and association with the Himalayas and communities across South Asia, particularly Nepal. Namita and Arun Saraf, under the guidance of Radheshyam Saraf, established the Foundation to give back to the Himalayan community.

One of the primary objectives of the Saraf Foundation is to retrieve research documents and scholarly heritage from scholars and individuals who have spent time studying Nepal and bring them back to Nepal for the benefit of all. The Foundation has made great efforts to document, archive, and preserve Nepal’s recent history to ensure all generations can connect to their rich heritage and culture. Beginning with documenting the past, the foundation has created forums and spaces to interpret and re-imagine our history differently.
